The definition of success is based so much on individual perspective…
Lets face it, city life is tough, you work hard in IT or as a medico, 2 major professions looked up to, but it could be any profession at all and sacrifice your “active” time as a youth to make money, climb up the industry ladder considering a better future, but take look at the numbers. According to a survey based on 1.14L households, ICMR-INDIAB, India Fit Report 2024 by GOQii, with over 46% of India’s population living an unhealthy lifestyle, Indian households are prone to significant wealth depletion due to diseases!
Resting and taking time to recharge through exercise is just as necessary as having the grind. But don’t let it fool you. Leaning too much into either side becomes problematic.
So it may not be necessary to give up your job to make time for health but it is absolutely necessary that you find a way to stick to some form of health routine which gets going irrespective of work/social hours.
India’s healthcare market has grown 2x in just the last 4 years (!!) according to RedSeer insights, what that means is, if your 20-ish year old starts putting pennies aside in the preventive healthcare aspect for themselves from early on, consider that as exercise, healthy nutrition, health tracking, etc. Then going on from there we improve your chances of avoiding all the falls and slips into a health crisis as a growing adult.
“Mentally” this is where I’d stopped thinking about “grinding and recharging”, trying to find balance and feeling limited when it becomes unbalanced. Instead I think of living, growing and dying gracefully. And most things I do as a person, I believe they come from that thought, subconsciously. Imagine the more meticulous and aware you are about yourself, your work, play and relationships, the richer you get. Technically that is what happens in most real life scenarios too, but when a single doubt creeps up, then maybe not! Nope then that surely does not happen.
I wonder what makes us doubt our very own intuitions in the first place. Anyway, time is running out as we are thinking over and over. Just the idea of grace or a state of flow, brings calm to my psyche and inspiration to my movements.
I read a really obvious note someone wrote the other day which said, “Your body will last longer than any job, handbag, car, AirPods or warranty, invest in your health, you are worth it.” But then again, if it was that obvious, fitness would be taken more seriously, love, highly appreciated and comparisons would fall apart.
This is where I am going to brag about having chosen a lifestyle where No means No to everything detrimental and Yes means a big Yes to everything adventurous. I am not going to become harsh in my words and rigid in my body just to look old. It is cool to be a calm, flexible, muscular and a happy person even if you are expected to be something else to seem like an adult…
Peace and love!
