I have nothing against bread consumed occasionally in your diet when you stand as a perfectly healthy individual. But when you realize that this carb, in this example the bread, is just doing the job of a cushion to support your cranky emotions then be warned. It can go down the slippery slope pretty fast!
Dark chocolate can help. (More so when it is gifted to you, haha.)
Every woman already knows this because the change in hormones during the menstrual cycle, especially the luteal phase (about a week before the period) causing a surge in emotional needs, we see ourselves looking for ways to seek balance.
This is also true for menopausal women with depressive symptoms. Only consuming 12g per day of 78% dark chocolate, there was a significantly greater improvement in depressive symptoms.*
Cacao is rich in polyphenols that seem to positively affect our mood states. Research supports that moderate dark chocolate consumption can be healthy for the body as well as the mind.* The benefits come mostly from the cacao so the darker the chocolate, the healthier.
The bun maska and jam or sweet mayo sandwich cravings can be entertained at some occasions in life if you really want it. But remember that if it is depression that you want to ward off and you need to limit the high sugar meals for health and fitness goals then the right way is to manage your weight, create movement habits and keep something like dark chocolate handy as a nice reminder to take care of yourself.
